Here’s a reflection based on the popular nursery rhyme…
Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb
Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow
Jesus is the Lamb of God, pure and innocent
Everywhere that Mary went, Mary went, Mary went
Everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go
As the child Jesus grew, he learned from Mary and Joseph
Followed her to school one day, school one day, school one day
Followed her to school one day, which was against the rule
Even to the Temple – where he taught and was rejected
Made the children laugh and play, laugh and play, laugh and play
Made the children laugh and play to see a lamb at school
“Let the little children come”, Jesus commanded his apostles, “for we must be like children to enter the kingdom of God”
And so the teacher turned it out, turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near
The Pharisees and Sadduces had him persecuted for preaching against them
And waited patiently about, patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about till Mary did appear
He waited as she followed him to the cross, bringing about our salvation.
“Why does the lamb love Mary so?” Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
“Why does the lamb love Mary so?” The eager children cry
She said YES to God’s call. He loves each of us and calls us into a personal relationship with Him
“Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know.” Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know
“Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know.” The teacher did reply
Mary is truly the Mother of God, the Mother Jesus, our Mother and Queen of Heaven and earth.
